Nubya Garcia in Ohrid on August 15 - The British Saxophonist and Peter Somuah Band at OH JAZZ

The OH JAZZ jazz evening with Nubya Garcia will take place at Donji Saraj in Ohrid on Saturday, August 15 at 21:00. The British saxophonist is one of the most recognisable figures of the contemporary London jazz scene and one of the leaders of the new generation that blends post-bop, Jamaican grooves and club culture.

Garcia was born in 1991 in Camden Town, London, to a mother from Guyana and a father from Trinidad who worked in film. She picked up the saxophone at 10 and went on to the Royal Academy of Music. Her debut album "Source," released in 2020 on the Concord Jazz label, was called a turning point for contemporary British jazz - with long modal passages, dub influences and production that pulls Caribbean roots and the London student scene into the same room.

Alongside Garcia, the same night also features Peter Somuah Band from the Netherlands and Germany - a continuation of the collaboration with Dutch-Ghanaian trumpeter Peter Somuah, who was already part of Ohridsko leto on August 14 with the National Jazz Orchestra. The two acts will share the Donji Saraj stage in one of the most anticipated jazz events on the summer schedule of Ohridsko leto 2026 - the kind of bill that says the scene here is actually paying attention.

Tickets are 1,000 denars and sold through karti.com.mk. The concert starts at 21:00 in the open-air setting of Donji Saraj - a venue that has become the central jazz spot in Macedonia over the last few summers.
