A concert in total darkness, with no ads and no branding on stage: TDK and Tlen play Hall 1 at Toplocentrala in Sofia on November 27, and the organisers say this is TDK's final show before the band withdraws once again into what they themselves call the world of contemplation. Doors at 20:00.
TDK are a Plovdiv band playing experimental noise rock with elements of punk and hardcore. Singer and songwriter Nikola Nikolov is the only one who has held the group together through every line-up change. After their tenth anniversary, the band recorded their third album "Nemesta" ("Non-Places") in Vancouver, Canada, with producer Jesse Gander, who has worked with Brutus and Japandroids, with saxophonist Chris Kelly and accordionist Aleksey Kalinin as guests. The album came out in 2023, self-released, and critics on the DIY scene called it the rawest and most experimental music the band has ever written.
The organisers present Tlen as direct witnesses to everything around us, a band that measures every change across "those 111 thousand square kilometres" of Bulgaria with an almost journalistic nose. The venue was chosen to fit the stage concept, which demands total darkness. The band promises to show its current form, "which, as always, is completely unexpected".
The cheapest passes are sold out. Tickets now go for 20, 23 and 25 euros, or roughly 1,232 to 1,540 denars, through bilet.bg. If this really is TDK's last show for a long while, the darkness inside Toplocentrala is a fitting stage for a goodbye.
