The children's playground in Karpoš 1 has once again been hit by vandals. Several pieces of play equipment and some of the street furniture were damaged, the Municipality of Karpoš said, calling on the police to find those responsible as quickly as possible.

"Every year the Municipality of Karpoš sets aside funds for maintaining, renovating and improving public spaces, and it continuously invests in installing and reconstructing children's playgrounds and street furniture. Unfortunately, investments in creating safe and well-kept spaces for the youngest are once again being called into question by irresponsible behaviour and acts of vandalism," the statement reads. The municipality is urging people to treat public spaces as a common good.

The key word is "again". If the same playground keeps getting smashed, appeals clearly aren't enough. Does the playground have cameras? Has anyone in Karpoš ever actually been caught and punished for destroying public property? How much has the municipality spent on repairs alone so far? Those are the numbers the statement doesn't give.

Swings don't break themselves - somebody broke them, and that somebody needs to be found. But it's the institutions' job to make sure it isn't this easy next time. In the meantime, the kids of Karpoš 1 have a playground full of broken equipment.
