Real Madrid start with three defeats for the first time in their history, Partizan with three wins, and MZT return to Europe after more than 25 years

Partizan go from minus 13 to a win in Munich

Partizan continue their perfect EuroLeague start: away at Bayern they trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but finished with an 86:84 win. Carlik Jones came alive again in the closing stages - 16 points, 12 of them in the last quarter, plus five assists. The most valuable player was Tonye Jekiri with 17 points and five rebounds, and Kevarrius Hayes made the key defensive play at the end. "We could easily have given up, but we fought and fought," Jones said. Last season was a very tough one for them. Now the Belgrade side are three from three, and next week they visit none other than Real Madrid.

Real Madrid make history - from the wrong side

For the first time in the club's history, Real Madrid have started a EuroLeague season with three defeats. After 77:78 in Dubai and 84:94 against Efes came 98:102 away at Hapoel Tel Aviv, who scored 63 points in the first half alone - the second-worst half Madrid have ever conceded in the EuroLeague. Théo Maledon with 26 points and Walter Tavares with 14 points and 13 rebounds weren't enough against Elijah Bryant (22 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists) and Vasilije Micić, who added 22 points. The greatest irony is that new coach Pedro Martínez began the season by lifting the Super Cup. Does anyone in Madrid still think that trophy meant anything?

Mike James undergoes surgery, Efes without him for seven to nine months

The all-time leading scorer in EuroLeague history, Mike James, has had successful surgery on his Achilles tendon and will be out for seven to nine months, Anadolu Efes announced. He suffered the injury without contact from an opponent, in the third quarter of the 72:77 defeat to Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade - he went down while chasing a loose ball and was carried off on a stretcher. The American is 36 and joined Istanbul this summer after five seasons at Monaco, where he won three French titles and was EuroLeague MVP in 2024. At that age, an injury like this raises a question nobody at Efes wants to say out loud: is this the end of a great EuroLeague career?

MZT open with a win, Kumanovo with a warning

Champions MZT Skopje Aerodrom opened the Macedonian Super League with an 85:77 win over Kumanovo, but not without nerves. After 19:19 in the first quarter and 52:38 at half-time, Marin Dokuzovski's side won the third quarter 20:11 and closed to 63:58. The hosts' experience settled it in the closing stages, with Tadić and Warner scoring 15 points each. Top scorer on the court was Kumanovo's new signing, Macedonian international Adem Mekić, with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists. For coach Vasko Atanasov this is just the start of a hellish October: MZT are playing on three fronts - the domestic league, the ABA League 2 and the FIBA Europe Cup - and will play no fewer than ten games this month.

After more than 25 years, MZT back on the European stage

On Tuesday, 6 October, at 7pm, MZT host Greece's Iraklis at the Jane Sandanski arena - the club's first European game in more than a quarter of a century. The club is laying on a whole party outside the arena from 5pm: music, food, cold beer, face painting for the little ones and a free-throw contest with an iPhone as the prize. Tickets cost 200 denars. If it's true that fans come when you invite them, Tuesday will be the real test. Now Iraklis just have to not spoil the party.
