The Karposh municipality has published two scholarship calls for the 2026/2027 school year - one for gifted pupils, one for young athletes. Both apply to the eighth and ninth grades, both run for eight months and both carry the same range: 3,000 or 3,500 denars a month.

Applications are accepted from 1 to 21 September, at 11 Nikola Rusinski Street in Skopje.

How you get to 3,500

The academic scholarship works on points. A pupil with 12 to 21 points receives 3,000 denars a month. A pupil with 22 points or more receives 3,500. Points are earned from first, second or third places, or from prizes at competitions organised by accredited bodies in science, literature, technology, culture and the arts. International success is worth the most.

The sports scholarship has a harder threshold. The top amount of 3,500 denars goes to pupils who took first place at an official national championship, or hold a national record, or received an award such as best player or top scorer - and who are national team members with at least one appearance. Second place at a national championship is worth 3,000 denars.

The residency condition is mandatory in both cases - only pupils resident in Karposh receive the scholarship.

One child, one scholarship

The most important provision in the call is the restriction. A pupil who meets the conditions for both the academic and the sports scholarship may use only one of them. Those who previously received one-off financial support from the municipality in the field of sport cannot apply.

The logic is budgetary and it is understandable - the money is spread across more children rather than concentrated on one.

But in practice it means that a child who is a top pupil and at the same time a national champion in their sport has to choose which direction to register their success in. The municipality recognises both, and pays for half.

Eight months, not twelve

The duration is worth noting too. The scholarship is paid for eight months, matching the school year rather than the calendar one. The maximum annual amount is 28,000 denars.

That is not a sum that changes a family's situation. But for an eighth-grader who trains every day and travels to competitions, the difference between nothing and 3,500 denars a month is whether the sport pays for itself or the family carries it entirely.

The call is open until 21 September. Required documents are proof of residence, confirmation of enrolment, the previous year's school report, copies of diplomas and consent for data processing. For the sports scholarship - also a CV, confirmation from the club, a sports ID and documentation from the national federation.
