Cyprus became a focal point of military tensions after the island was struck by a series of drone attacks. In response, several European countries mobilized their military capabilities to defend the strategic Mediterranean island.

Greece was among the first to react - it dispatched warships and F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus. Four Greek F-16s are already on the island, and two frigates are en route to its shores.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that France will send anti-missile and anti-drone systems, along with a frigate. The decision followed a phone call with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also expressed support for sending a German frigate, with an official decision expected soon.

The United Kingdom, which maintains military bases in Cyprus, also responded. The British Prime Minister confirmed that the UK is sending a warship and helicopters following the attack on the Akrotiri military base. There was an early-morning false alarm with a call for emergency evacuation of the base, after which it was clarified that there was no immediate threat.

This massive military reinforcement of Cyprus represents a significant response by European countries to increased security risks in the eastern Mediterranean. Analysts assess the situation as part of broader tensions related to ongoing Middle East conflicts.
