Foreigner Attacked in the Center of Skopje: Will the Attackers Be Found, or Just Another Case for the Statistics

The center of Skopje, around eleven at night - and instead of a safe stroll, an attack. A 33-year-old Chilean citizen reported being attacked by two men, one of whom hit him with a "hard object." The case was reported to the police, who are searching for the attackers.

The details are scarce for now - the motive isn't known, nor the identity of the attackers. But the fact itself says enough: a foreigner, most likely a tourist or a guest in the city, ends up attacked in the center of the capital. What kind of image are we sending out for a place where we want people to come?

Safety in the center of Skopje isn't an abstract topic for statistics and reports. It's what decides whether someone will take a peaceful walk in the evening or keep glancing over their shoulder. The authorities regularly brag about reduced crime and a "safe city" - but every attack like this is a reminder that the numbers and the feeling on the street don't always line up.

The question that remains is simple: will the attackers be found, or will this case too melt into the statistics of "unidentified perpetrators"? Because safety isn't measured in press releases, but in how fast the system responds when someone is hurt on the street.
