The “Idadija” polyclinic in Skopje has finally gone under construction scaffolding. A reconstruction worth over 31 million denars has begun, through which a building standing since 1975 is to get a new facade, insulation, a modern heating system and energy-efficient lighting. For more than four decades this institution has run on worn-out infrastructure - while thousands of patients pass through it every day.

The project is being carried out through the Public Sector Energy Efficiency Project, implemented by a unit within the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the World Bank and the Western Balkans Investment Framework. The grant agreement was signed in December 2025, and after a completed public tender, in March this year a contract was concluded with the contractor worth 31,028,850 denars.

The reconstruction is expected to significantly cut electricity and heating consumption, lower maintenance costs and improve conditions for both medical staff and patients. On paper - everything as it should be. An investment in public health, financed by international funds, instead of leaving the building to decay.

All that remains is what, in our country, is always the hardest part - the deadlines and the quality of the work. The contract is signed, the scaffolding is up, the money is secured. Whether “Idadija” will be renovated within a reasonable time or join the list of projects that hang under tarpaulin for years - that won't be shown by a press release, but by the date the first patient walks into a renovated waiting room.
