Lords of the Sound, the Ukrainian symphony orchestra that performs film scores as a concert programme, comes to Hall 1 of the NDK in Sofia on 8 January 2027. The programme is devoted to the music of Hans Zimmer, and it starts at 19:00.

The orchestra is led by conductor Nazar Yakobenchuk, with soloists Iliya Skrebnov and Yaroslava Taran. What sets them apart from the dozen or so similar projects is that they fold Ukrainian instruments into the symphonic setup - bandura, cimbalom and sopilka. The combination is not decoration: Zimmer's scores already lean on unusual colours, so a folk instrument finds a place exactly where a synthesiser would normally sit.

The programme runs through Zimmer's most recognisable film work - "Dune", "The Dark Knight", "Inception", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Interstellar", "Sherlock Holmes", "The Lion King" and "Man of Steel". Zimmer is one of the few living composers whose soundtracks people listen to separately from the films, which is precisely why concerts like this fill halls.

The orchestra arrives off a serious European run - sixty concerts in France and thirty in Germany, almost all sold out. In March 2026 they made their American debut as well. The Sofia date falls early in January, when the concert calendar is usually empty, and tickets go through eventim.bg.
