43 points. 21 points in the third quarter alone. 39 points in the second half. Twelve minutes after halftime in Detroit, Donovan Mitchell did something only two others have done in NBA history - LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Detroit Pistons 112-103 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. The series is now tied 2-2, but Mitchell's numbers are what the headlines will be about.

First half - a nightmare. Just four points, his shot blocked from all sides. Then the break, and something snapped. Mitchell came back on the floor and started firing. And making them. Shot after shot, tough finishes, impossible angles.

In the third quarter alone he poured in 21 points and took over the game. Matching LeBron and Kyrie for most points in a single quarter of a playoff game is a rarity - only a handful of players in history have ever done it.

But Mitchell had an even more ambitious mark in his sights. 39 points in the second half - he came within a few points of breaking Sleepy Floyd's record, who in 1987 dropped 39 points for the Golden State Warriors in the same span. Just a few points stood between Mitchell and NBA history.

The series now shifts back to Detroit for Game 5. The Cavs are one step from the Eastern Conference Finals - and with Mitchell in this form, the question is not whether they get past the Pistons, but how fast.
