Giannis Admits Discomfort in Miami, the Knicks Celebrated After 53 Years, and Our Juniors Hunt a Win

Giannis admits: in Miami I do not feel comfortable, but my heart is in Milwaukee

The biggest star to change environments this summer spoke openly. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who after his entire career in Milwaukee ended up at the Miami Heat, admitted that it was precisely the escape from the comfort zone that pushed him to change clubs. „I thought I would be in Milwaukee my whole career. But I saw that I was in the comfort zone. I wanted something different”, the Greek said on a podcast. And he added something Bucks fans will remember: „I will love Milwaukee as long as I live”, so he did not close the door on a return. The two-time MVP and the player who brought the Bucks the title in 2021 now starts from zero in Florida. An admission of discomfort before he has played a single match - honesty or a sign of trouble?

Macedonia's juniors on a second chance: after the loss to Georgia, a key duel with Bosnia

At home, the young basketball national team of Macedonia (U18) has no time to mourn. After the loss to Georgia at the start of the European Championship in the „B” division, in the afternoon a key duel awaits them against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which also opened with a loss - to Hungary. Both selections dream of finishing in the top two positions and a place in the quarter-finals, so this match already carries the weight of a decider. The duel starts at 18:00, and then our juniors face Hungary and Sweden. The second round, and already a match of life and death - why do our national teams so often have to hunt a deficit?

Rabotnički with a new executive director and a completely new management

One of the biggest sports brands here has got new leadership. The basketball club Rabotnički announced that Branko Radevski has been appointed as the new executive director, and the changes also affected the entire board of directors. Alongside Radevski, the management structure now includes Dimitar Trajčevski, Mile Ilievski, Jorgo Kostov and Aleksandar Stojkoski. The most decorated basketball club in Macedonia is betting on a fresh wind and better functioning. A new management always brings promises - the question is whether a result on the court will stand behind the names, or just another reorganisation on paper.

New York celebrated the title after 53 years, and Brunson now seeks 300 million

From the NBA came a story of patience that pays off. The New York Knicks won their first title since 1973, and the leader Jalen Brunson is now, according to ESPN, in line for a maximum contract worth around 300 million dollars. What is interesting is how he got there: in 2024 Brunson signed a four-year deal worth 156.5 million, a year before he became eligible for a five-year deal of almost 269 million. With that he left around 113 million dollars on the table and gave the Knicks room to build a championship team around him. The twenty-nine-year-old guard averaged 26 points and 6.8 assists. A player who sacrificed money to win, and now gets it back - a rare story in a sport where everyone wants theirs at once.

Boban Marjanović at a new address: the giant from the Balkans plays in Asia

And one Balkan story to close. The veteran Boban Marjanović, the Serbian centre standing 2.24 metres tall, signed a short-term deal with the Philippine team SGA and will play at the prestigious „William Jones” cup in Taiwan, from 13 to 23 August. The thirty-seven-year-old basketball player last season played for the Slovenian team Perspektiva Ilirija, where in the ABA league he recorded 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds with an incredible 56.2 percent shooting from the field. Marjanović spent nine seasons in the NBA - from San Antonio to Dallas and Houston - and remained among the public's favourite names. At 37, instead of hanging up his sneakers, the giant carries basketball to a new continent. Balkan people rarely give up the game - even when the world thinks it is over.
