In his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers, LeBron James is just 27 wins away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most regular-season wins in NBA history. Abdul-Jabbar holds 1,074, James has 1,048. So: 26 wins to level, the 27th for sole ownership of the top. He is already the league's all-time leading scorer. At 41, after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, he signed a two-year deal and enters his 24th NBA season, itself a record. He will play alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown. Twenty-four seasons, and he is still collecting records other players watch on television.
After three defeats, Macedonia's men's junior team recorded its first win at the Division B European Championship in Croatia - 69-60 against Sweden, in a direct duel for fourth place in Group D. At half-time Sweden led 31-30, but the second half was entirely Macedonian: better defence, more energy, collective play. The turnaround came in the third quarter, when our side even built a double-digit lead. Captain Grigorij Gjorgjević finished with 17 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, Cvetkovski added 12, Malinić 11 points and 10 rebounds, Danev 10. The win secured Macedonia a playoff for 9th to 16th place. It isn't a medal, but it is the first proof that this generation knows how to come back from a deficit.
American guard Noah Farrakhan (25, 185 cm) has officially signed for MZT Skopje. Macedonian basketball remembers him well - against MZT themselves in the ABA2 league he scored 27 points with seven assists. Farrakhan already has one European season behind him: he started it at Bosnia's Student, continued at Igokea and Borac Banja Luka, and finished it at Slovak top-flight side Komárno. His college career took him through East Carolina, West Virginia and Hampton Pirates, and last summer he played four games for San Antonio in the NBA Summer League. He is the champions' second foreign signing after Bosnian centre Emir Krajinić. Vasko Atanasov stays as coach. The logic is clear: if you can't beat him, sign him.
Draymond Green stays at the Golden State Warriors on a new one-year deal worth 27.7 million dollars. The story is more interesting than the number: Green had previously declined a player option worth 27.6 million precisely to give the Warriors room to sign LeBron James. James went to Philadelphia, and Green came back to the same sum - plus a hundred thousand. Last season he averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 games, shooting 41.8 percent from the field. He was the 35th pick in 2012 and has since become a four-time champion, four-time All-Star and a former DPOY. The sacrifice for the big transfer didn't pay off - but at least the account balanced.
The EuroLeague has published the schedule for the 2026/27 season. The start is 24 September, the Final Four is set for 27-30 May. The format stays the same - 20 teams, 38 rounds, play-in, best-of-three quarter-final series. The only change in the line-up: Beşiktaş replaced Monaco because of the French club's financial problems. The opening brings Dubai against Real Madrid, Barcelona against Anadolu Efes, and defending champions Olympiacos travel to Baskonia. Crvena Zvezda play Žalgiris, Panathinaikos face Paris, and Partizan host Olimpia Milano. This year there are 10 double rounds instead of 12 and a minimum of 396 games. The play-in is on 20 and 23 April, the playoffs start on 27 April. The Balkans are part of the elite again - the question is whether they will stay there.
