The Neck Gives Us Away First, Yet We Forget It: Why It Ages Faster Than the Face and What Actually Helps

We smear the face with creams, serums, and SPF - and the neck, which gives us away first, we usually forget. According to aesthetic doctor Natalie Ribe, the neck shows age faster than other areas because it has thin skin with fewer sebaceous glands and is in constant motion. Add to that modern life: staring at a phone for long stretches creates horizontal lines - the so-called „tech neck."

The first rule is simple: apply your skincare to the neck before you get dressed, so you don't skip it. And don't just „extend" the leftover face cream downwards - the neck and décolletage need their own formulas, says bio-aesthetician Ivette Pons. Useful ingredients are hydrating actives, antioxidants, peptides, and pure retinol in low concentration.

There are also things to avoid. Introduce vitamin C and retinol gradually, not all at once. And, very important - don't spray perfume directly on the neck and décolletage, because essential oils can cause photosensitivity and dark spots in the sun. For exfoliation, use chemical or enzymatic rather than harsh mechanical, since this skin is more vulnerable.

Besides creams, neck and jaw exercises help, along with good posture and targeted massage for better muscle tone. For those who want more, there are medical treatments too - radiofrequency and bioremodelling that stimulate collagen. But the point isn't in the expensive procedures: the neck is a part of the body that, with a little regular attention, holds up far better than with nothing at all. As with everything else - better to start early than to regret it late.
