Poolside Skin: the Trend That Says Ditch the Heavy Powder and Put On Sunscreen With Antioxidants

Summer exposes every heavy makeup look - it literally melts on the face. That's why stylists this summer are talking about so-called poolside skin: a fresh, glowing, hydrated complexion that looks like skin straight out of the pool, instead of buried under layers of powder.

The point is a shift in philosophy - instead of hiding the skin, you show it's cared for. Maria Gomez, marketing director at a cosmetics company, advises ditching dense foundations and replacing them with "facial sunscreens enriched with antioxidants that strengthen the skin barrier and give it glow." In other words, sun protection and care become the makeup.

The additional recommendations go in the same direction: ultra-light powders with a protection factor, tinted lip balms with SPF, and hybrid products that simultaneously nourish and add color matched to the skin tone. It all sounds practical - and it really is, especially in high heat when every thick layer turns into a problem.

There's a practical reason behind the trend too, not just an aesthetic one: dense foundations easily transfer onto light clothing and leave marks on delicate fabrics. And here lies the irony the cosmetics industry doesn't say out loud - the best summer look actually calls for fewer products, not more. The point isn't what you'll buy, but that the skin underneath it all is healthy and rested. And that, unlike makeup, doesn't come in a bottle.
