SDSM Demands an Investigation Into the Bulgarian Firm Linked to Janushev, and His Resignation

SDSM is demanding that institutions investigate the government's secretary general Igor Janushev over an alleged link to a Bulgarian transport firm. According to the opposition, it concerns the company „FLUGBAN TRANS“, registered in Kyustendil, whose ownership structure allegedly includes people close to VMRO-DPMNE circles.

The key question SDSM raises is whether Janushev declared that foreign business interest in his anti-corruption statement. „The public deserves an answer on whether there is undeclared property, capital or a business interest abroad, and why those details were not declared“, the party's statement reads.

SDSM is requesting an investigation from the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and from the Public Prosecutor's Office, as well as Janushev's resignation while the review lasts. The party even reached for irony: it accused VMRO-DPMNE of hypocrisy - of protecting national identity while running business through Bulgaria.

Here it's worth pausing, regardless of who is accusing whom. The anti-corruption statement exists precisely so that there's no doubt - the official declares everything, and the question is closed. When something isn't declared, the suspicion becomes legitimate regardless of whether politics stands behind it. Whether this is a real scandal or pre-election ammunition will be shown by the investigation - if there is one at all. And that very „if“ is the biggest problem in the country.
