12 YEARS FOR 57 KILOMETRES OF MOTORWAY - IS THIS HOW MACEDONIA MOVES FORWARD?

Construction of the Kičevo - Ohrid motorway began in February 2014, and 12 years and 8 months later the project still isn't fully finished. Over just 57 kilometres of motorway, several governments, ministers and directors have come and gone, but the promises of completion remain unkept.

VMRO-DPMNE has run the project for a total of 5 years and 7 months, while SDSM was in power for 7 years and 1 month.

Originally planned to cost around 375 million euros, the motorway has reached a contract value of around 598 million euros.

Is this how Macedonia moves forward? Is this an example of responsible spending of public money?

While state debt grows and citizens feel the effects of economic problems, millions of euros are tied up in an infrastructure project that has been blowing through its deadlines for years.

Even after 12 years and 8 months of construction, hundreds of millions of euros spent and countless promises from different governments, the Kičevo - Ohrid motorway still isn't fully finished, and citizens are still waiting for it to finally open.

The question is no longer just when the motorway will be finished, but who will take responsibility for the delay, the extra costs and the inefficient management of public funds.
