At the Zagreb club Peti kupe on October 9, the audience is not just an audience. Organiser Wolf's "90's Trash Sing-Along" is a party where the people who turn up are the main part of the programme: the DJ plays the hits, the lyrics are on the screens, and the whole club sings as one.
The repertoire is the biggest local, regional and international hits of the nineties and early 2000s. The announcement lists "Tek je 12", "365", "Laži me", "Takvi kao ti" and "Prava ljubav", but also "Hit Me Baby One More Time", "I Want It That Way" and "Wannabe". Songs nobody admits to having listened to in years - right up until the first line kicks in.
Wolf bills the night as the first party of its kind in the region and promises surprises that aren't in the programme. Nineties outfits are optional, enthusiasm is mandatory. Isn't it interesting that the songs people are most embarrassed by are exactly the ones that fill the dancefloor?
Doors at 22:00. A regular ticket costs 12 euros, about 739 denars, plus a 1.20-euro fee, on sale at entrio.hr. Peti kupe is at Trnjanska cesta 5 in Zagreb, next to the Lisinski concert hall and the main railway station.
