Leopard print, gold chains and tracksuits: that is the official dress code for Slav Banquet, the night that on October 24 turns Sofia's Club Pave into a Balkan wedding without a bride and groom. On stage are Mila Robert from Bulgaria, Balkandrea with The Balkan Sisters from Romania, and the Chupacabra orchestra. Starts at 22:00.
Mila Robert is the best-known name on the poster. Born in Sofia in 1996, she is the daughter of singer and actress Vanya Shtereva and basketball player Robert Gergov. She has been singing and playing guitar since the age of 13, and at 16 she showed up at the auditions for the second Bulgarian X Factor with Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game". Her first single, a 2017 cover of Emil Dimitrov's "Signal", won her BG Radio's newcomer award, and her 2020 debut album "Egotrip" passed a million plays. She graduated in acting from NATFIZ and works in parallel as an actress and painter.
The organisers bill Mila Robert and Balkandrea as "two Balkan princesses", while Chupacabra's job is to set the tone of the night, because no Balkan banquet happens without an orchestra. On the poster Balkandrea sits with an accordion in a red tracksuit, in front of a rug with horsemen on it. This is not a concert to sit through. The organisers promise "questionable dancing" and whatever happens after midnight, and ask the crowd to dress "like you've got something to prove".
Early tickets cost 20 euros and regular ones 25 euros, or about 1,232 to 1,540 denars, through bilet.bg. Balkan kitsch as the theme of a night in an alternative Sofia club: whether it is irony or nostalgia, everyone gets to decide for themselves on the dancefloor.
