Altın Gün, the Amsterdam band that turns Turkish folk songs into psychedelic rock, plays Hangar at the Port of Belgrade on 28 November. The evening starts at 8 p.m.

The band was founded by bassist Jasper Verhulst in 2016 in Amsterdam, and its second album, 2019's "Gece", was nominated for a Grammy for best world music album. "Yol" and "Âlem" followed in 2021, "Aşk" in 2023 and "Garip" in 2026. They build their sound on Anatolian rock and Turkish folk, in new arrangements of old songs, with funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue organs.

The line-up has changed since the early years: singer Merve Daşdemir left the band in 2024, and today alongside Verhulst are Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız on vocals, bağlama and keyboards, Daniel Smienk on drums, Chris Bruining on percussion and Thijs Elzinga on guitar. That means Belgrade gets the band without Daşdemir, who sang on the nominated "Gece".

Tickets on tickets.rs start at 3,990 dinars, about 2,100 denars. A Dutch band playing Anatolian songs, Grammy-nominated, in a hangar on the Danube - how often do the Balkans get a meeting of East and West like this on one stage?
