Amira Medunjanin, the greatest contemporary interpreter of sevdah, is performing at Špancirfest in Varaždin. On Saturday, August 22, 2026, on the Vila Bedeković stage, as part of the festival's 28th edition that turns the whole town into an open-air stage, Medunjanin brings an evening devoted to music that connects centuries, starting at 20:30.
Medunjanin is a phenomenon with no real parallel on the regional scene. She has put her voice in the service of the sevdalinka - the traditional Bosnian song of longing and love - and carried it onto world stages, from jazz festivals to concert halls where the audience rarely knows the meaning of the words but always understands the emotion. She has collaborated with top names in European improvised and ethno music, and her albums have placed her among the most respected performers of the genre.
Špancirfest is no ordinary festival. The 28th edition, running from August 21 to 30, brings over 600 programs spread across 23 festival zones in the historic core of Varaždin - from street theatre to concerts by the biggest names. The Vila Bedeković stage arrives this year with a refreshed concept featuring seating and standing room, making it ideal for an intimate performance like this one.
Tickets are available through eventim.hr. For those who want an evening where the song carries more than entertainment, Varaždin on August 22 offers one of the deepest performances of the summer programme.
