St. Anastasia Island in the Bay of Burgas, a rocky outcrop with an old monastery and a lighthouse, is rarely associated with bass music at full volume. Yet this is exactly where, on July 31 and August 1, Bass That Island 2026 takes place - a two-day festival that turns one small island in the Black Sea into something like a floating rave platform.

This year the festival spreads across two days and three stages, with a focus on drum and bass, techno, trance and reggae. For fans of the genre, the lineup carries several serious names: the Dutch duo T end Sugah, as well as Enei, a producer with British-Russian roots and one of the sturdiest brands in today's drum and bass. Alongside them perform Erlox from Switzerland, Sepuz from Belgium and a whole string of local and regional DJs - over thirty acts in total.

The logistics are part of the experience. You reach the island by boat from Burgas, which means the trip to the festival itself is a short maritime adventure, not a walk through a metal fence onto a dusty field. Two main stages and one day stage run all weekend, so the rhythm never stops from afternoon deep into the night.

This is a festival for those who want heavy bass without the enormous crowd of the mega-festivals - an intimate setup in an unusual location, where the sound bounces off the sea.
