On September 4, Toplocentrala in Sofia - a former heating plant turned cultural space - descends into darkness for Cathartica Fest 2026 (Cathartica Fest). This is a festival for people to whom techno and industrial electronica are not the backdrop to a party but the main course: a whole night of heavy, hypnotic sound in a setting of concrete and metal.

The headliner of the night is SNTS, one of the most respected names in heavy techno, a producer whose dark, ritual sound became a hallmark of the Berlin school. Alongside him on the main stage perform Kasis with the Cathartic live band, Gwelt from the Netherlands, Cassandra from Italy, Sober and Semplifaer. The second stage, Resurrection, is held by Alkasis, Klaul from Greece, Diana Bravo and Labazuj from Britain, while the third stage is run by a string of local and regional acts.

The festival's idea is contained in its name - catharsis through sound. This is not a random collection of DJs but a curated line-up across three stages, each with its own energy, designed to lead the crowd through the night. Toplocentrala as a location adds extra weight: the industrial space is exactly what this kind of music demands.
