Chegi Bend play their first solo concert in Belgrade, at the mts hall on December 10 at 20:00. Twenty musicians take the stage. Tickets are around 1,260 denars.
The band became recognisable through a clip called "The Evolution of ex-Yu Music", four and a half minutes running through almost six decades of music from the former Yugoslavia, performed a cappella. That run takes in "Zvižduk u osam", "Devojko mala", "April u Beogradu", "Pogledaj dom svoj anđele", "Beograd", "Libar" and "Balada disidenta", ordered chronologically from the sixties to today.
The format is unusual because the band does not play covers in the conventional sense; it builds multi-part arrangements in which the voices carry the harmony instead of the instruments. Among the members is a world champion classical accordion player.
Until now Chegi has worked mainly as a wedding and private-party band, and in that category they are among the most in-demand in the Balkans. Moving from private events to your own concert in a hall seating thousands is a step few such bands ever take.
The announcement promises an audio-visual spectacle with the best-known numbers from across the former Yugoslav space alongside the band's own repertoire. Tickets are through tickets.rs.
