On October 9 at Vintage Industrial Bar, the Zagreb rock band Corto won't be playing its own songs, but Azra's. They perform this set only once or twice a year, which makes the night a rare chance to hear Johnny Štulić's catalogue in the hands of a man who knows that music from the inside.

Corto formed in 1995 in Trnje, a Zagreb neighbourhood. Singer and songwriter Domagoj Vorberger founded the band and is the only member who has been there since day one. During a long break from Corto, Vorberger was invited by Boris Leiner and Mišo Hrnjak, Azra's former drummer and bassist, to join the project "Pozdrav Azri" ("Greetings to Azra"), and spent around ten years performing with them across Croatia and abroad.

That is why this is no ordinary tribute. The organisers bill it as "a little Corto, a lot of Azra": Zagreb streets, raw rock'n'roll and eighties lyrics that still sound as if they were written this week. Azra are one of the most important bands of the Yugoslav new wave, and generations know their songs by heart. Has any other band from that era made the jump into the twenty-first century this well?

The gig starts at 21:15, with doors at 20:30. A presale ticket on entrio.hr costs 10 euros, about 616 denars, and 13 euros at the door, about 801 denars. Children under nine accompanied by a parent get in free. Vintage Industrial Bar is at Savska cesta 160 in Zagreb.
