Damir Avdic performs at Prandau-Norman Castle in Valpovo on September 26, as the first edition of a new event called BLITZGIG. Booking a castle for a performer who sings about urban frustration with an electric guitar is exactly the contrast the organisers were after.

Avdic is a singer-songwriter from Tuzla, born in 1964, known for raw, direct, socially engaged lyrics and for high-voltage solo shows. For years he played in the hardcore-punk band Rupa u zidu; today he performs alone, with nothing but an electric guitar and his voice. Audiences also know him by the nicknames Graha, Diplomac and Bosanski psiho.

The album "…od trnja i zaoka" came out in 2004 on the Zagreb label Slusaj najglasnije, and wider recognition arrived with "Mrtvi su mrtvi" in 2008. Then came "Zivot je raj" in 2010, followed by two provocatively titled records, "Main Kapital" in 2012 and "Human Reich" in 2013. He is a writer too: the author of the novel "Na krvi cuprija", and in the last decade he has written four novels and a poetry collection. Slovenian director Dusan Moravec made a documentary about him.

This is a performer the region produced and then had no idea where to file: too literary for the punk column, too rough for the literary evenings. BLITZGIG is a brand-new event format, and Avdic is the logical pick for its first edition. Tickets are available through entrio.hr.
