The Vijus sports hall in Slavonski Brod hosts a concert in honour of Toma Zdravkovic on October 10. It starts at 8pm, in the year that marks thirty-five years since his death.
Zdravkovic was one of the most loved and most honest voices in the folk music of the former Yugoslavia. He wrote most of his own lyrics, and most of them carry a heavy autobiographical mark: love songs about love that was never returned, about suffering, about being alone. That refusal to hide anything is exactly why audiences took him in for good.
The poster lists Dejan Matic, Nemanja Nikolic, Milan Topalovic Topalko, Advina Begic and Sinisa Bisko, backed by a large orchestra. This is not a solo evening but a multi-voice production, which makes sense for a songwriter whose catalogue survives through interpretation: each of them sings the same songs differently.
The organisers are billing it as a spectacle with a big stage and a heavy production. The same format runs in Cakovec on October 17, with a different line-up. Tickets for Slavonski Brod through eventim.hr start at 24 euros, roughly 1,478 denars.
