Zagreb rock band Drugi Način plays the Hard Place club on December 12 at 8 p.m. It's one of the groups that laid the foundations of the rock scene in the former Yugoslavia.
The group got its name on October 9, 1974, from the poem "In Another Way" by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Three of the members, Požgajec, Mehić and Kurtović, had previously played in the group Novi Akordi. The debut album "Drugi Način" came out in June 1975 and immediately won them a large audience.
That album is now considered the first true progressive rock album in Yugoslavia, and Drugi Način one of the most innovative bands of the scene at the time. Their biggest hits were the ballads "Stari grad" and "Lile su kiše", both with lyrics by Gojko Bjelac, and audiences also remember "Piši mi". Fifty years after the debut, the question isn't whether the songs have aged, but how many young bands today take risks like that.
Tickets cost 15 euros (about 924 denars) plus fees and are sold via entrio.hr. Hard Place is in Zagreb, Croatia.
