Abandoned Basement in Aerodrom Turned Into a Drug Warehouse: Ecstasy, Mushrooms and Three Scales

An abandoned basement in Skopje's Aerodrom neighbourhood turned into a genuine drug warehouse. During the search, police from the Department for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking found a white lumpy substance, hallucinogenic mushrooms, a bag with a large quantity of ecstasy pills, marijuana, as well as three digital scales - equipment that unambiguously points to preparation for resale, not personal use.

The Interior Ministry also shared a video showing samples of the seized drugs, packed in bags. The quantities aren't small, and the way they were stored - in an abandoned space, away from prying eyes - speaks of organisation, not chance. The question that imposes itself is how long this warehouse sat there before anyone reacted.

Finds like these are welcome, but they also open an uncomfortable question. If a whole network can store ecstasy and mushrooms in a basement in the middle of a populated area, whom and for how long did that drug serve before it was discovered? The seizure is a success for the police, but also a reminder that what reached the basement, sooner or later reaches the street too - and the youngest.

It remains to be seen whether arrests and indictments will follow this operation, or whether the seizure will end up as another photo of drug bags on a table, with no one held to account. That's exactly the difference between news of one search and news of a broken network - and that difference is shown by the coming weeks, not today's press release.
