Evoken play SKC Baza in Belgrade on August 12. The American funeral doom veterans arrive with material from their latest album, and tickets are 2,200 dinars through tickets.rs. The start is at 7 pm.

The band is from Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and is considered one of the founders of the American death and funeral doom scene. Together with Novembers Doom and Rigor Sardonicus, they are among the earliest American death-doom groups still active today, which for a genre with this kind of audience is a rarity.

The discography starts with the EP Shades of Night Descending and the first full-length album Embrace the Emptiness. Then comes Antithesis of Light in February 2005, and Atra Mors became their reference record. The sixth album Hypnagogia came out in November 2018, six years after the previous one, and the latest, Mendacium, in October 2025 through Profound Lore Records.

Funeral doom is a genre that demands patience from the band and the audience alike. Songs run ten minutes and more, the tempo is slow to a degree newcomers take for a mistake, and the vocal is deep and without melody. What Evoken do better than most is to place melodic layers inside that slow movement which, when they appear, change the entire weight of the song.
