Ezhel plays Kino Šiška in Ljubljana on November 2, as part of the Sogodbe programme of the Druga godba festival. The Turkish rapper who lives in Berlin is one of the names that shaped both the Turkish and the German rap scene.
Born Ömer Sercan İpekçioğlu in Ankara in 1990, Ezhel broke through with his debut album "Müptezhel" in 2017. The record was not just a commercial success but a cultural event in Turkey, a fusion of rap with reggae and trap, with lyrics that dealt directly with city life and with what it means to be young in a country in economic and social crisis. The tracks "Şehrimin Tadı" and "Geceler" made him the voice of a generation.
He is now based in Berlin, which opened up the German scene to him as well, where he collaborates with names like Ufo361, with whom he recorded the album "Lights Out". That dual status, Turkish and German rap author at once, is rare, and it is exactly what brings him an audience both in Turkey and across Europe.
The concert is a co-production of the Druga godba institute and Kino Šiška, held in the Katedrala hall. Advance tickets are 27 euros, 30 euros on the day, and 20 euros with a student discount. Doors at 20:00. Kino Šiška is a former cinema converted into one of Ljubljana's most important concert venues, a space that regularly brings in the names the rest of the region misses.
