Facade From a Ten-Story Building in Karpos Falls on Three Cars: the Same Facade Fell Last Year Too

A huge piece of the facade of a ten-story building on "Jurij Gagarin" street in Karpos came loose and fell onto three parked cars around 4:20 p.m. Fortunately, no one was hurt - but the material damage isn't small, and the story behind it is even bigger.

Because this isn't the first time. One of the residents whose vehicle was damaged, Ana Doneva, said the facade problems had been flagged this year and last - both to the building manager and to the authorities. A similar piece of the same facade fell on July 9 last year. In other words, this isn't an accident, but a foreseen disaster that no one reacted to in time.

The story has an even older chapter: six years ago, on the same street, a facade fell onto the car of actor Vasko Todorov. The same street, the same problem, the same silence. And here's the point that holds for half of Skopje - the facades of old buildings pass over people's heads, and the responsibility always hangs somewhere between the residents, the manager and the municipality, while no one does anything.

The police reacted quickly and professionally, the resident confirms. But a quick reaction after the fall doesn't bring back what was lost - neither the cars, nor the sense that it's safe to park under your own balcony. The question is simple: how many times does the same facade have to fall before someone orders it repaired?
