Same crossing, four times the wait

Coming back from Greece, the wait at Bogorodica does not just depend on how many people are travelling that day. It depends on the hour you pulled up to the barrier, and that gap is wider than most drivers assume.

Averaged over eight days of measurements on the Greece-to-Macedonia direction, the wait at 07:00 is 14 minutes. At 11:00 the same crossing costs you 67. That is almost five times longer, at the same place, on the same day of the week.

The curve turns upward after nine

Early morning is calm, and the calm does not last. By 09:00 the wait jumps to 56 minutes, then holds near the hour mark for the whole working day: 67 minutes at 11:00, 61 at 13:00, 63 at 15:00.

Relief comes late. At 17:00 the average drops to 52 minutes, at 19:00 to 40. Only around midnight does the crossing return to something like the morning picture, at 30 minutes at 23:00.

These are averages, not promises. One more coach, or one fewer shift on the booths, moves the number for that particular day. But the shape of the day repeats often enough to be worth planning around.

Why the number is not the same everywhere

The wait shown on the Greece guide does not come from a single source. Sensor readings, reports from drivers themselves, and the delay measured on the approach road are blended together, and every figure can be checked in a panel that shows exactly what it was built from.

The border cameras are part of the same picture, but it is worth knowing what they show: they look at the exit from Macedonia into Greece. There is no camera on the return direction at any crossing, so that leg is tracked through the numbers rather than a live image.
