Goca Lazarević sings on October 29 at Akademija 28 in Belgrade, at a concert marking fifty years on stage. Tickets are 1,200 dinars through tickets.rs, and the start is at 8.30 pm.
Her career began in 1973. Fifty years on, her repertoire holds Vidovdan, Svilen konac, Mala žena and Maramica, songs that belong to the core fund of Serbian folk music and that even people who do not know whose they are sing. That is what is least appreciated about performers of that generation: that their songs became common property and stopped having an author in the audience's mind.
She announced the golden tour on the show Puls Srbije, setting out from Niš on October 10 and continuing in Čačak. What she announced for the concerts themselves is more interesting than the jubilee: she wants to perform the songs in acoustic versions, with classical musicians and musician friends, and to bring back the pieces that are not the most commercial but left the deepest mark on her body of work.
She says of herself that she was unambitious and lazy, which for a singer with fifty years of service is an astonishingly self-critical assessment. Perhaps that is exactly why she keeps her concerts in mid-sized halls rather than arenas.
Akademija 28 is an intimate space in Belgrade, which makes sense for an acoustic set-up. Tickets are 1,200 dinars, through tickets.rs, among the cheaper prices on the Serbian concert scene this autumn.
