Jamie Woon had his moment in 2011. He came fourth in the BBC's „Sound of 2011” poll, the debut album „Mirrorwriting” came out in April that year on Polydor, and then he largely disappeared off the radar. On September 19 he plays Dorćol Plac in Belgrade.

The British singer, songwriter and producer first drew attention with „Wayfaring Stranger”, an old American spiritual he recorded in 2007, remixed by Burial, the reclusive producer whose work was central to the development of dubstep. The same Burial co-produced „Night Air” in 2010, the single that opened the door for him. That joining of a soul vocal to the sound of London's late-night electronics is what set him apart.

Commercially the numbers were not spectacular. „Night Air” reached number 67 on the British pop chart, „Lady Luck” number 76. But „Mirrorwriting” remained an album people are still writing about fifteen years later, which is a different measure than the charts.

Dorćol Plac is a former industrial yard turned cultural space, open-air and with a capacity closer to a club than a hall. For a performer whose music depends on the space around the voice, that is not bad news. Tickets are via tickets.rs.
