The musical "Sa druge strane jastuka", built on thirty Bajaga songs, plays on September 12 in the Blue Hall of Sava Centar, starting at 20:00. The production is part of the 33rd Belgrade Summer Festival, and tickets are around 1,030 denars.
The title is borrowed from the second Bajaga i Instruktori album, from 1985. The music and lyrics are by Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga, the book by Stevan Koprivica, and the direction by Jug Radivojević. It is a Teatar na Terazijama production, where the show is one of the most performed in the repertoire.
The action goes back to the early eighties, and Koprivica himself describes it as an urban fairy tale set in the Terazije triangle. The main character is, in effect, Belgrade itself in those years. The costume design references Madonna and David Bowie, which is the correct time coordinate for the period the songs came out of.
One thing sets this staging apart from a standard musical: every performer stays on stage the whole time. The actors, choir, ballet and orchestra do not come and go between scenes but remain visible from start to finish. The cast features Slaven Došlo, Milena Živanović, Danijel Korša, Žarko Stepanov, Vladan Savić, Igor Damnjanović, Elizabeta Đorevska and Kristina Savić.
Bajaga i Instruktori formed in Belgrade in 1984, after Bajaga had played in Riblja Čorba and written songs for them. Thirty of his songs in one evening, performed by an orchestra and choir rather than a band, is a different form from a concert. Tickets through tickets.rs.
