Julien Dassin, the son of legendary French singer Joe Dassin, comes to Plovdiv on June 4, 2026 with an orchestra and special guests. The concert will take place at the Summer Theatre of Plovdiv, as part of a tour that also includes Sofia (June 5) and Varna (June 7). Titled Les Classiques Francais - your L'Ete Indien, the show is dedicated to his father's hits and to the Italian classic Toto Cutugno.
Joe Dassin (1938-1980), an American-French singer whose father was a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant to the US and whose mother was a Hungarian actress, was one of the most recognisable figures of French pop in the seventies. With hits like L'Ete Indien, Les Champs-Elysees, Si tu n'existais pas and Le Jardin du Luxembourg, he sold over 50 million records. Toto Cutugno (1943-2023), the Italian singer and songwriter, reached the same heights with his Eurovision win in 1990 for the song Insieme: 1992, and with the Italian standards L'Italiano, Solo Noi and Donna donna mia.
Joining Julien Dassin on stage as special guests are Italian singer Chiara di Bari and French singer Lauren Nogier, with a full orchestra. The setlist covers the most recognisable songs of both writers - performed in the original arrangements with live strings and brass. The Summer Theatre of Plovdiv is one of the finest open-air summer stages in Bulgaria.
Tickets are available through eventim.bg at 41 leva. The concert starts at 20:00 on Thursday, June 4, 2026. For Macedonian fans of classic French and Italian chanson from the seventies and eighties, this is one of the loveliest options in the neighbourhood this summer.
