Kawir, one of the pillars of the Greek black metal scene, play Sofia on October 3, 2026 at the Oldskulls club. The occasion is the thirtieth anniversary of „To Cavirs”, the record that for many opened the pagan direction in Greek black metal. The event is part of the Horns Up Festival programme, and Hyperborea and Foultron perform the same night.

Kawir have been playing since the nineties, in the period when the Greek scene was creating its own sound through names like Rotting Christ, Varathron and Necromantia. In 1994 the band released two key seven-inch records, „Eumenides” and a split with Japan's Sigh for Cacophonous Records, and then came „To Cavirs”, the first genuinely pagan-oriented record to come out of the Greek black metal scene.

What separates Kawir from the rest is the source they draw on. Instead of the standard Satanic iconography of the Norwegian school, the band works with ancient Hellenic culture, with lyrics sung in ancient Greek and songs built on Greek mythology. In Sofia they are announcing a special old-school set with wind instruments by Pandion and female vocals by Megaira, which means the evening is conceived as the marking of a specific album rather than an ordinary club show.

The concert starts at 7 pm. Tickets cost 35.20 leva through bilet.bg, around 1,109 denars, and the price is higher at the door. For an audience from Macedonia that follows extreme metal genres, this is an event with a rare programme that does not repeat every season.
