Klapa Rišpet, Croatia's most popular klapa, performs on August 14 at the Trsat fortress in Rijeka as part of "Summer on the Fortress". The ensemble that carried the Dalmatian klapa tradition to the top of the charts arrives at one of the most striking open-air stages on the Kvarner.
Rišpet was founded by the Split composer Pero Kozomara in 2011, and the group quickly became the best-known and best-loved Croatian klapa, with sold-out concerts and numerous awards. They have recorded four albums so far, and their success went so far that they became the first klapa to reach number one on the Croatian chart in the last seven years - a rarity for a genre that traditionally lives outside the mainstream.
What makes Rišpet special is the blend of the authentic Dalmatian polyphonic klapa tradition with a contemporary pop sensibility, which makes their songs accessible to a wider audience too. They have collaborated with names like Mišo Kovač, Jelena Rozga, Doris Dragović and Zorica Kondža. The Trsat fortress, overlooking the Adriatic, seems built for their Mediterranean sound.
Tickets are available via ulaznice.hr. The concert is at the Trsat fortress above Rijeka, in the evening hours.
