Lakers Build a Package for Antetokounmpo - Three First-Round Picks and Cap Space, but Charania Is Immediately Skeptical

Los Angeles's attempt to land Giannis Antetokounmpo is taking concrete shape - at least in the media. According to the latest information published by Charania, a potential Lakers package for the Greek superstar includes three first-round picks, the option for the Lakers to absorb Antetokounmpo's entire contract through cap space, plus a second variant with a sign-and-trade involving Austin Reaves.

Specifically, it's about pick number 25 in the 2026 draft, plus future first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, with several additional pick swaps. Charania himself immediately expressed skepticism - these terms may not be enough if Milwaukee really puts Antetokounmpo on the trade market, since interest will come from half the league.

Everything starts with Milwaukee. The Bucks want clarity on whether the two-time MVP is ready to sign a new extension. If the answer is "no," the organization will likely move to a trade before losing him as a free agent sometime later. In other words, every future move depends first and foremost on Giannis, then on everything else.

Pairing Antetokounmpo with Luka Dončić in Los Angeles would create one of the most extreme duos in the NBA, but also a serious roster headache. Without much remaining cap space, the Lakers would be forced to build around them with minimum-salary contracts and unused first-round picks. Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and a few other clubs are also on the scene, waiting for the same signal from Wisconsin.

And one more variable - LeBron James. All signals so far show he'll play one more season, and Los Angeles for now remains his first destination. If the Lakers can finally convert all these scenarios into one reality, the 2026/27 year will definitely be the most interesting in the last several. Until then - everything depends on Giannis.
