Marco Mezquida, the Spanish jazz pianist from Menorca and one of the most recognisable names on the contemporary European jazz scene, comes to Sofia on June 18, 2026 with his trio. The concert will take place at Cinema Lumiere, one of the intimate club venues for acoustic events in the capital.

Mezquida, born in 1987 in Ciutadella, is a three-time winner of the ECHO Jazz awards (the German equivalent of the jazz Grammys) and the winner of the Martial Solal competition in 2017. His style blends classical jazz piano with flamenco influences (he is a Catalan-speaking Menorcan) and experimental elements that make him one of the most unconventional pianists in the genre. With 18 studio albums and regular appearances at Blue Note clubs (New York, Tokyo, Milan), he is one of the key figures in contemporary European jazz.

The setlist is built from Mezquida's original compositions - usually combined with improvisations on the classics of Thelonious Monk, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea. Cinema Lumiere is an acoustically suitable space for the kind of music Mezquida and his collaborators play - more spontaneous, less structured jazz.
