Tirana burned last night. Albania's opposition organized a massive protest in front of the government building demanding PM Edi Rama's resignation, with demonstrators hurling Molotov cocktails while police responded with water cannons and tear gas.
The protest was organized by the Democratic Party of Albania with support from other opposition parties. What began as a political rally quickly escalated into a direct clash between demonstrators and police in front of the government building. Several MPs and Democratic Party supporters were injured, and multiple demonstrators were detained.
Albania is going through a period of intensified political polarization, with protests against Rama becoming increasingly frequent and violent. For the Balkans, the picture is familiar: opposition on the streets, government behind water cannons, and a question nobody answers - how much longer?
