Moodymann, one of the most guarded and most respected names in Detroit house, plays Sofia on September 11, 2026 at club DOM on Angel Kanchev street 1. Performing the same night is German producer Danilo Plessow, known as Motor City Drum Ensemble, with Emil DD, Zimone and Shosho completing the line-up.
Behind the Moodymann alias is Kenny Dixon Jr, a man who came out of Detroit hip-hop production in the early nineties, working with local rappers such as K-Stone, before turning to techno and then to his own strain of house. He founded his KDJ label in 1994 with the "Moody Trax EP", and in 2002 added Mahogani Music, which released Detroit musicians including the late funk keyboardist Amp Fiddler and soul singer Monica Blaire. He is also a member of the group 3 Chairs.
What sets his sound apart is the refusal to lean on samples alone. Dixon mixes live played instruments with sampled parts, which gives his records a warmth and unevenness that typical club house does not have. He is also one of the few producers to have kept control of his own releases across a thirty-year career, which partly explains why he gives interviews rarely, and concerts in this part of Europe more rarely still.
Danilo Plessow is no second billing in this company. As MCDE he is one of the central figures of European disco and house over the past decade, with a set that leans on deep jazz and soul samples. The two of them on the same night in a club of about a hundred square metres is a combination cities bigger than Sofia pay far more for.
Entry costs twenty-five euros, roughly 1,540 denars, through bilet.bg. Doors open at 22:00. Sofia is the nearest capital where names like this appear regularly, and the distance from Skopje is a little over four hours by car.
