A duo that stretches the line between metal and ambient is coming to Belgrade. Nadja, the Canadian project known for slow, hulking walls of sound, plays Karmakoma on September 3. For fans of drone and doom metal this is a rare chance to hear that specific sound live in the region.

Behind Nadja are Aidan Baker (guitars, vocals, multiple instruments) and Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals), a married couple who now live in Berlin. The project began in 2003 in Toronto as Baker's solo outlet to explore the heavier, noisier side of his experimental ambient music, and in 2005 Buckareff joined the band so it could perform live.

What they make is hard to file under a single label - they blend soundscapes, electronics and atmospheric vocals with slow, epic riffs and funereal percussion. Critics call it doomgaze, drone, ambient-doom or shoegaze-metal, while Baker himself likes to describe it as ambient metal or, jokingly, dreamsludge. It is music you feel more than you hear.

The show at Karmakoma starts at 8 pm, and tickets are available through tickets.rs. For a night where the sound wraps around you like fog, there is hardly a more specific event in Belgrade this autumn.
