Neno Belan, a legend of Split and Croatian rock, performs on July 24 at the Trsat fortress in Rijeka as part of "Summer on the Fortress". The frontman of the cult band Đavoli and author of some of the best-known Mediterranean hits arrives at the biggest open-air stage on the Kvarner.
Nenad "Neno" Belan, born in Split in 1962, has for more than four decades been one of the central names of Croatian music. In 1984 he founded the band Đavoli, which won huge popularity across the former Yugoslavia with a blend of fifties rock'n'roll and a Mediterranean atmosphere close to the Dalmatian klapa tradition. The combination of a Western way of playing and the warmth of the Split melos made them recognisable everywhere.
After Đavoli, Belan launched a successful solo career, opening it with the album "Vino noći" in 1993 and hits like "Zaboravi" and "Sunčan dan". His body of work is today part of the region's collective memory, and his concerts are a meeting of generations that grew up with his songs.
Tickets are available via ulaznice.hr. The concert is at the Trsat fortress above Rijeka, a medieval fort overlooking the Adriatic - a stage made for Belan's Mediterranean sound.
