Nikola Vranjković plays the Botanical Garden in Belgrade on September 5. The former Block Out frontman performs under the open sky, starting at 7 pm, and tickets are 2,100 dinars through tickets.rs.

Vranjković was born in Belgrade in 1970, and is a singer, guitarist, composer, lyricist and producer. From 1991 until September 2013 he led Block Out, one of the most significant groups on the Serbian rock scene of the nineties. The band had both the critics and the audience, but internal disagreements grew until in 2013 Vranjković was thrown out of the group he had founded himself.

That is a scenario that usually means the end of a career. For him it meant a new start. From 2013 onward he has released several solo albums, among them Zaovdeilizaponeti, Veronautika, Biološki minimum and Teorija zabave. The material is inward, heavy, with dark riffs and lyrics that concern people and personal struggles rather than general themes. This is not music for a festival stage at four in the afternoon.

That is exactly why the Botanical Garden is an interesting choice. A quiet, green location in the city centre, which works better for this repertoire than any club. The show is organised by Longplay, and the programme is set for the start of the evening, while the place still has light.
