Berlin four-piece Plattenbau plays the B-stage of Mixtape 5 in Sofia on November 22, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. Support comes from Bulgaria's Tlen and producer Evitceles.

The name comes from the German word for prefabricated concrete-panel blocks, and that's no accident. The band was formed in 2011, inspired by the brutalist architecture of the post-Soviet landscape in East Berlin. The members and instruments changed until today's line-up settled: Louis Lloyd on vocals and synth, Sally Brown on bass and vocals, Brandon Walsh on drums and Jesper Munk on guitar and synth.

The sound is a mix of post-punk, noise rock and wave: robotic drums, goth bass lines, mystical guitars and paranoid synths, with dark, deep vocals. They describe it themselves as "tight, loose and nasty". In 2021 they signed to Dedstrange, the label of Oliver Ackermann from A Place to Bury Strangers, which released "Shape / Shifting" (2022) and "Net Prophet" (2023). They have also played SXSW and New Colossus in New York.

Tickets on bilet.bg cost 14 to 20 euros, roughly 860 to 1,230 denars. For a reader from Skopje, a band making music out of concrete-panel blocks sometimes sounds closer to home than you'd expect.
