Political battle after Karposh tragedy: SDSM demands resignation, VMRO-DPMNE responds

Following the tragedy in Skopje's Karposh neighbourhood where a mother and daughter lost their lives, Macedonia's opposition and ruling party clashed in a sharp political dispute. SDSM demanded the resignation of Interior Minister Toshkovski, arguing that the institutional system had failed to respond to years of domestic violence warnings.

VMRO-DPMNE rejected the criticism, accusing SDSM of politically exploiting the tragedy. The ruling party pointed out that the welfare and police systems had been dysfunctional for years - during previous SDSM governments.

The case has sparked a wider public debate about the need for systemic change in the fight against domestic violence in Macedonia.
