Possessed, one of the most important American extreme-metal bands and pioneers of an entire genre, come to Sofia on June 9, 2026. The concert will take place at JOY Station, as part of their European tour.
The band was formed in 1983 in San Francisco by vocalist and bassist Jeff Becerra. The 1985 album Seven Churches is often credited as the first death-metal album - not only because it introduced the term death metal in one of the songs, but also because of the distinctive guitar style, tremolo picking and harsh vocals that became standards of the genre. With three studio albums from the early period (1985-1986) and Revelations of Oblivion from 2019 after a thirty-year pause, they are one of the key references for any fan of extreme metal.
The tour setlist covers the Seven Churches classics - Death Metal, Pentagram, Burning in Hell - alongside material from Revelations of Oblivion. Jeff Becerra, in a wheelchair since 1989 after a shooting, still performs at full force and remains behind one of the most recognisable vocal sounds in the genre. JOY Station is a club with a capacity of about 1,500.
Tickets are available through eventim.bg at 70 leva. The concert starts at 20:00 on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. For Macedonian fans of classic extreme metal, this is one of the key dates - Possessed rarely play in the neighbourhood.
