Puls Parents: While We Stand Over the Graves, the Accused Asks for Comfort

"While we stand over our children graves, someone asks for easier conditions." Parents of those killed in the Puls nightclub fire responded sharply to the defense request for house arrest for Dejan Jovanov - Deko instead of prison detention.

The request was filed after Deko health deteriorated during the trial and emergency medical intervention was needed. The defense uses this as an argument for lighter conditions. The parents see it differently: 63 families live with loss every day, over 200 injured survivors face ongoing consequences - and the accused seeks comfort.

The parents directed a series of questions at the accused. Their pain is public, their demand simple: justice must not be diminished because of the health condition of the man charged with the tragedy. Will the court listen?

The Puls case is an open wound in Macedonia. A tragedy that showed how fragile the inspection system is, how little rules matter when nobody enforces them. Every leniency in the courtroom is experienced as an insult to the families. Rightfully so.
