Šank Rock, an institution of Slovenian rock, play on August 22 in the covered garden of Loški pub in Škofja Loka, as part of the Pisana Loka festival. Doors at 21:00, and the ticket costs 20 euros, around 1,230 denars. This is their first appearance in that space at all.
The band is from Velenje and its history starts in 1982, with a first album in 1987. For more than four decades they have filled concert spaces across Slovenia. The line-up: Matjaž Jelen on vocals, Cveto Polak on bass, Aleš Uranjek on drums, Andrej Rot on guitar and Marko Zorec on guitar and keyboards.
Jelen, born in 1966 in Slovenj Gradec, is a singer, lyricist and composer whose life's work is precisely this band. In January 2011 he and bassist Cveto Polak left the group over disagreements, but later returned. That is the detail that makes this concert more interesting than an ordinary festival slot: what plays is a line-up that once fell apart and put itself back together, not one name touring with hired musicians. The repertoire includes „Metulj”, „Pravljica o mavričnih ljudeh” and „Ker te ljubim”, and the band openly says a new album is already in the works.
Loški pub is a small space in the very heart of Škofja Loka, which means a concert with far less distance than the band usually has. Tickets are via mojekarte.si.
